This game is great for testing general vocabulary and student resourcefulness. Write the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 on the whiteboard...making sure to leave bigger spaces between the numbers the higher you go. Divide the class into two teams. One student from each team comes to the front. PSS determines the winner. The winner then writes a two letter word under the number two. The next student writes a three letter word beginning with the last letter from the word with two letters under the number three (and so on and so forth). The two students keep battling it out until one of the students is stumped and cannot continue. Sometimes I allow participation from teams. I usually allow them the use of resources (vocabulary lists, dictionaries, etc...) after the number 10 is cleared. This game is good with smaller classes as it can be time consuming. Students must write an answer within 30 seconds of the opponent's answer. You can make this game simpler by choosing one letter only and having the students write words that begin with that same letter.
